“This time last year I was at my highest weight, close to 170 pounds. I am 5’4 and based on my age, which was 43 at the time, height and weight, I was considered overweight. I became depressed, yet motivated. I started to walk several days a week then began to run. In July of 2014, I decided to join a gym. I was somewhat skeptical because I wasn’t comfortable in a gym environment. I made the decision to commit to getting in shape, as well as change my diet. I became a Vegetarian. My body began to make noticeable changes and the pounds started to shed. On October 19, 2014 while at the gym, I suddenly became dizzy, disoriented, sweating profusely and experienced shortness of breath. Rushed to the ER, after lots of tests, not only did I suffer a mild heart attack, but I was diagnosed with a genetic heart disease. I remember my Cardiologist saying, you have to stay out of the gym indefinitely. I was devastated. I had worked so hard. While recovering at home, I started to walk several miles per day in the park. Thinking about everything I’d been through and putting my life into perspective. I have family to live for. Maybe staying out of the gym is what’s best for me. Those were my daily thoughts, but I knew I couldn’t sit around feeling sorry for myself. With my Dr’s ok, I slowly began working out after only 5 weeks. Fast forward to today, this is how my body’s transformed. I spend 5-6 days a week in the gym weight training. My heart condition is controlled. I am no longer on any medications.
