My name is Courtney and I’ve lost a total of 85 pounds since 2012. I’ve always struggled with my weight since I can remember. I was never brought up in a healthy eating household and whatever food or snacks my siblings and I wanted my mother supplied us. I began gaining weight in my junior year of high school and it only increased as my habits continued into my adult life. I often used food as a way to replace the feelings I suppress or to deal with difficult situations.
In 2008 I found out I had PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) but I ignored the doctor’s recommendation and decided that I wasn’t going to focus on my health. It wasn’t until my mother passed in 2011 that the pounds began to feel heavy and walking up a flight of stairs would leave me winded. By 2012 I was doing alot of partying and in a dead-end relationship weighing my highest at 285. I decided it was time to end both the relationship and the downward spiral I was on.
I changed the way I ate, cut out the late night eating, began slowly by walking on break at work and at home on the treadmill with every intention to become a runner. I lift weights as well, even though I’m taking a temporary break at the moment- I’m still keeping up with cardio. Today I weighed myself and was quite surprised to see that I’m currently at 200 pounds!!!!! The journey has been tough, the change has required dedication, but I’m here pushing through until I reach my goal of 180 pounds. I’m sharing my story to let other ladies believe and know that it is possible to lose weight with PCOS, naturally and without surgery. Motivation, determination and if you help support it’s a bonus. Keep pushing the work is never done!
