Meal planning is one of the best ways to structure and plan out your eating, especially when you are not sure about what or how you want to eat. No more opening the refrigerator and staring blankly into it thinking and imagining what you could just throw together. Meal planning is so important, fitness experts and those preparing for fitness competitions consider it a must. They not only plan their meals down to the ounce, they spend most of at least one day each week prepping those meals. If you ever wondered why people would rather take out the time to plan their meals before they get hungry, here are a few good reasons why!

Nichola Smiles says “Fitness is a lifestyle, and this lifestyle is about  choices. But the most important choice you make daily is —-FOOD! My trainer/nutritionist Dewayne Malone educated me on the importance of nutrition during on and off season. I know I need to eat every 2-3 hours and consume 6 meals a day.

Yes I eat!!! With the help of Dewayne and  My Fitness Pal, I wanted to share a sample meal plan for the average woman uncertain about healthy food choices. It is a good start for someone that is just trying to eat clean and/or lose some weight. Combine this meal plan with your exercises and you are guaranteed to see results. That’s how you really ‘TRAIN YOUR WAIST.'”

You Eat Less

When you plan your meals especially when you are not hungry, you are more likely to consider portion control. When you eat with organization and control, you eat less and feel satisfied and not stuffed.

Waste Not, Want Not

You ever heard of this old adage? For example, only serve and prepare enough food at a meal that you know will easily be eaten, leaving no waste. “Waste not, want not.” In turn, that means you will only purchase and eat the food you want and need and no longer have to worry about fresh veggies or fruit you planned to eat growing into “frankenfood” in the back of your refrigerator. Your waist and wallet will thank you later.

Variety Is the Spice of Life

Mix it up some with the meals but still keep the core of what you enjoy eating as your main healthy staple. Mixing up your meals by switching from lean chicken to turkey or from red peppers to Kalamatas (plump, purplish black Greek olives) for example, does have its advantages. When you add new foods to your meals, you add a little flavor to your overall weight-loss efforts which helps you to not overeat. Moreover, consuming a wide variety of foods ensures that you’re getting a greater range of essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that keep your body healthy.

Less Stress

Once you already know what you are planning to eat, that is one less thing you need to think about. Having the “what’s for dinner” dilemmas resolved, can turn a hectic week into one that is nearly stress-free.
